Val Verde Unified School District and Eastside Arthouse developed a partnership in which a selected artist would work with an individual school to create a one of a kind mural that meets the school needs and vision. I had the opportunity to to work with Sierra Vista Elementary school in Perris, California.

This mural was commemorative project to celebrate the schools 20th anniversary. The mural features a cub amongst mountains that blend into the real Perris landscape and reference nearby Lake Perris. The cub's shadow symbolizes the inner lion and is deliberately oriented toward the middle school across the street. There are 20 hidden paw prints to mark the school's milestone.

The project included artist talks, mural design reveal, an after school “Mural Task Force” of students from 1st to 5th grade, and paint day with summer school students. Photos and a mural mock up with the kids signatures is now buried in a time capsule that will be opened in 10 years.
